Welcome!
We have an exceptional team and school for college-bound students in the Washington, DC metropolitan area with average to gifted cognitive abilities who have challenges in:
- social cognition,
- executive functioning,
- flexible thinking,
- pragmatic language,
- sensory-motor development.
The Model Asperger Program (MAP) is built on four pillars that support an innovative, evidence-based education:
- Small classes tailored to each student’s social, academic, and sensory needs
- Fully integrated social skills curriculum with support where students need it—in class, at lunch and at play
- Creative and challenging academics using individual and small-group instruction to develop critical thinking and problem solving abilities
- Positive, research-based practices for emotional regulation and behavior management
Our students in the Model Asperger Program have average to gifted cognitive abilities but struggle in mainstream learning environments due to difficulties with social skills, executive functioning, flexible thinking and self-regulation. The program serves students from Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia. They have diagnosis that include: PDD/NOS, High Functioning Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Non-Verbal Learning Disability, Executive Dysfunction. In addition they may have additional challenges, including ADHD, anxiety or mood disorders, or Tourettes Syndrome.
