Parenting with Acceptance and Commitment

As a parent you have many wishes for your child and family - these typically align with your values. At times these wishes or values may seem unattainable or too difficult to reach. Jennie will introduce concepts from Acceptance and Commitment Training as tools to identify the values you have for your child and family, accept the difficult feelings and situations that stand in the way, and commit to actions that move you closer to your values.
Communication Strategies for Individuals with Autism

Katie and Colleen will describe practical, evidence-based strategies for supporting and enhancing the communication of students and young adults with autism who exhibit significant deficits in speech and language skills. They will discuss how to support language comprehension, provide a language-rich environment, and encourage language use.
Useful Tips to Help Your Child through the Journey to Adulthood

Amy and Sharon will host discussion and Q & A on understanding your child's role in the transition planning process, promoting independence through the development of self-advocacy skills and talking to your child about their disability.
Conversation Club: Teaching Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Other Social Cognition Challenges to Engage in Successful Conversation with Peers
Hosted by Lynn Cannon, M.Ed. (Ivymount School, Maddux School and Outreach Programs Social Learning Coordinator)
Conversation Club co-author, Lynn Cannon, will discuss a unique and fun way of teaching kids with high functioning autism to converse with their peers. Conversation Club teaches not only the "how" but also the "why" of conversation. Lynn will share several practical strategies that families and teachers can implement immediately.
